Stages of Production

This is the first draft of my college magazine. I decided to call my magazine 'Wills College' because i thought it sounded as if it has been named after a famous person who was important to education or the country, and also i thought it was quite intellectual.  The colour scheme shown on this draft isn't the one i wanted to use it was an idea so i knew where i was putting things, etc. The masthead and the tag line 'magazine' they are the colours that i knew i would keep to use throughout.




These are a few of the images that i took to decide which one i was going to use on my front cover. I knew what model i wanted. I decided to use a casual looking boy who is 18 to show that boys are interested in education. Also i decided to change the norm of your average good looking girl that people would pick up the magazine to look at. I choose this model because he is just an ordinary boy.

This image isn't really appropriate to put on the front cover so i didn't use this one. It is a bit dark and dull and doesn't attract attention.

This image isnt suitible for the front cover, it is on a slant and wasnt taken very well. Also the light swith is showing and other things in the corners. The lighting is okay but the position of the model isnt very good, there is a little amount of space above his head but not as much as there should be. It is brighter than the previous image and also it does look quite casual and would have been okay if it was taken a little bit better.

This one is a little bit better than the previous one. The image isn't straight so it wouldn't look right. It also looks a bit fake and looks not natural, as if he is just been told to stand there and hold two books.

This one i did consider using as my main image. I used the blue and white t-shirt with wills printed on it to show that he is  part of 'Wills College'. Also i got this idea of using the colleges name on a t-shirt from a magazine i used in my research. I decided not to use this image because i tried the mast head on the top and tried to start creating my magazine, but it didn't look right because the mast head covered the top of his head. He is the main image so having some of his head covered ruined the importance of him.

This is the final one i decided to use because i felt it fitted my idea of what i wanted my front cover to be. He is smiling and looks relaxed. It is a natural pose and doesn't look fake. It still has the blue and white 'Wills' t-shirt which i think fits in really nicely with my masthead colour scheme.

Research - College Magazine

This is one of the first college magazine's i looked at to get some ideas for what my front cover should look like.
This one is quite formal and is more for trying to persuade people to come to their college.
I didn't want mine to be like that, i want mine to be informal and relaxed. This college magazine doesn't fit the brief that i had been given. My college magazine will be for the students and to inform them off things happening. Just an overall fun cool magazine.
I like the layout of this, and i think the image is relevant. The colour scheme works well. I like the blue and white and that gave me some ideas for my colour scheme.

This is another college magazine i looked at. This one is not as formal as the other, its a bit more relaxed but still has that seriousness.

I like the Colour scheme in this one, the red masthead works well with red t-shirt that the thought to be student is wearing.

The name of the college is SMU which is said on the front cover and on her t-shirt is says i heart SMU.

This gave me an idea for my magazine to include the name of my college on the students t-shirt to show them as a part of the college. What makes this not as formal is the stories it includes such as the 15 & pregnant one that's about a real life situation.

This is the final one i looked at. I don't actually like this one. It is very formal and looks to be very boring. It might appeal to scientists but to any other person wanting to do a different subject at this college it doesn't look interesting. It seems to be all about science. Also there isn't that much stuff on the front to attract attention to make people pick it up and want to read it.
